Real Flame Fireplaces:Affordable Heating Solutions

There is nothing that warms the home and livens up a room more than a fireplace in winter. When a chill is in the air, people look forward to coming home and curling up in front of a fire with a favorite book or movie. Unfortunately, fireplaces aren’t always built into an apartment or home; leaving many without the comfort that they desire. Today, however, there are products on the market that can allow virtually anyone to have the fireplace of their dreams without having to go through an inexpensive remodel. While electrical fireplaces are beautiful and fun to have, nothing really beats the crackle of a fire and the heat it naturally generates. That is why real flame gel fireplaces have grown in popularity over the last few years.

Decide where in the home the fireplace will be used. Choose the type of fireplace such as a standard wall model, a corner model or an embellished model. Embellished fireplaces have extra built-ins like bookshelves or curio cabinets.

Decide on the style of fireplace. Style refers to the décor of the fireplace. If the home is primarily Victorian, then chances are good that a Victorian style fireplace will work best. If the home is more modern, then a more streamlined look may be desired. Perhaps a simple, straightforward fireplace without a lot of bells and whistles is perfect. Whatever the choice it is important to have something in mind before making a purchase.

Determine the size of the fireplace. Measure the width of the space where the fireplace will be. This is the most important measurement, especially when space it limited. Allow a couple of inches leeway in the event that an exact match in width size can’t be found.

Decide how far out the fireplace can stand (the depth). Make sure that whatever is chosen does not interfere with the room’s layout. Finally, settle on the height desired. Most fireplaces come in standard heights between about 42 inches and 48 inches; however, there are exceptions.

Choose a color for the fireplace. Although most gel fireplaces are made out of real wood and can, therefore, be painted or refinished, that process can be more difficult for highly detailed models. If possible, it is best to choose a color or stain up front that will just naturally work in the room. Standard choices generally include oak, mahogany, and white. However, there may be other options available as well.

Establish a budget for the fireplace. Choose either a hard fast figure or a range but settle on an amount over which you are not willing to go.
